Food Safety And Standards Authority Of India (FSSAI)
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a statutory body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which is a consolidating statute related to food safety and regulation in India. FSSAI is responsible for protecting and promoting public health through the regulation and supervision of food safety.
Type of FSSAI License Registration
1. Basic registration: It Includes Business Having Turnover up to 12 Lakh in a Year
2. State license: Business having turnover between 12 lakh to 20 crores in a year comes under state license
3. Central license: Business having turnover above 20 crores comes under central license, any business doing export and import also come under central license.

FSSAI BASIC REGISTRATION
The Food Standards and Safety Authority of India (FSSAI) is the supreme authority which is responsible for regulating and supervising the food safety. So it is mandatory to take FSSAI Basic Registration as per the law. Here we discuss about basic registration, Small businesses or startups having annual turnover below Rs.12 lakhs can apply for basic FSSAI Food safety registration. As operations scale up and turnover reaches Rs. 12 lakh above, the basic registration will need to be upgraded to state license. As the name said it is very basic registration so it won’t be enough for large business firm.
FSSAI Food safety Registration is mandatory for anyone who intendsto do food business. This not only involves preparing food but everyone who handles food at various stages before it ultimately reaches the customer like raw materials, Manufacturing, processing, Mess, Canteen packing and the distribution as well as the agencies who have authority to sell them.
Required Documents for FSSAI Basic Registration:
1. Authorized person address proof
2. Passport size photo
3. Business name and address
4. Fssai declaration form
5. Nature of business details.
FSSAI License Requirement
For all other FBO apart from small-scale business, the FSSAI license has to be obtained. FSSAI License can be classified into two categories i.e. State FSSAI License and Central FSSAI License based on the size of the business whether it is a medium scale or large scale business.
Generally, FBO who are large manufacturers, importers, exporters dealing in large-scale food business need to obtain FSSAI registration from the central government and FBO with small to medium-sized manufacturing units, transporters, marketers, traders, etc., need to take FSSAI registration from the state government. To apply for StateLicense the FBO must have a turnover between Rs 12 lakh to Rs 20 crore.
Other conditions include manufacturing units having a capacity of 2MT per day, dairy units handling business up to 5000 litres per day. 3-star hotels and above, repackers, relabelling units, clubs, canteens all catering business irrespective of their turnover need to apply for the license. The tenure of the license being a maximum of 5 years and a minimum of 1 year.
To apply for a central license the FBO must have a turnover exceeding Rs. 20 crores and needs to have operations in two or more states. All importers and exporters need to apply for this license. The maximum tenure is 5 years and the minimum is 1 year.
FSSAI STATE LICENSE
The Food Standards and Safety Authority of India (FSSAI) is the supreme authority which is responsible for regulating and supervising the food safety. So it is mandatory to take FSSAI Food safety License Registration as per the law. Here we discuss about FSSAI state license. Businesses having annual turnover between Rs.12 lakhs to 20 crore can apply for FSSAI state license. Food business operators like small to medium-sized manufacturers, storage units, Transporters, Retailers, Restaurants Marketers, distributors etc. are however required to obtain the FSSAI State License Registration.

Required Documents for State FSSAI License
In case of Trader/ merchant
1. List of Director/ Partner/ proprietor with address and contact details
2. Photo id with address of Director/ Partner/ proprietor
3. List of food category
4. Proof of possession of premise Electricity bill+ rent agreement and NOC
5. Partnership deed/ MOA and certificate of incorporation, AOA+ authorization of food activity
6. Name of person in charge with contact details
In case of manufacturer, following additional documents shall be required for state license
1. Blueprint/ layout print of processing unit showing the dimension in meters and operation wise area
2. Name and list of equipments & machinery along with number, horse power and installed category
3. List of food category desired to be manufactured
4. Authority letter with name and address of responsible person nominated by manufacturer indicating power vested with them like assisting the officers in inspections, collection of samples, packing & dispatch ( issue a resolution on letterhead for person in charge
FSSAI CENTRAL LICENSE
The Food Standards and Safety Authority of India (FSSAI) is the supreme authority which is responsible for regulating and supervising the food safety. So it is mandatory to take FSSAI Food safety Licenseas per the law. Here we discuss about FSSAI central license.
Businesses having annual turnover above 20 crore can apply for FSSAI central license. Eligible food Business Operators like Importers, Manufacturers, operators in central government, Railways, airports, seaports, etc. need to take a Central FSSAI license from Food Standards and Safety Authority of India.
Required Documents for FSSAI Central License
1. Rental Agreement of Business Premises.
2. ID Proof of the Concerned Person (Aadhaar Card / Driving License / Passport / Voter ID)
3. If any Government Registration Certificates ( Company Incorporation Certificate / Firm Registration / Partnership Deed / Pan card / GST Registration Number / Shop and Establishment Registration / Trade License)
4. If the applicant is private limited company or partnership firm then they should provide MOA & AOA or Partnership deed copy.
5. IE Code (Import Export Code) Certificate.(for the category of export and import IE code is compulsory)
6. Authority letter from the company letterhead to the concerned person stating that he is authorized to file FSSAI application.
7. List of food category desired to be manufactured (In case of manufacturers).

4. In case if your business in to mineral water plant then water test report compulsory and for few others as well.
FSSAI RENEWAL
When the food license validity gets expired, food business operator become liable to renew the FSSAI license .The license should be renewed before 30 days of the expiry of license.
FEES FOR BASIC REGISTRATION (1 YEAR)
RENEWAL/MODIFICATION OF LICENSE- 100/-
DUPLICATE- 10% of the applicable license fees.
FEES FOR RENEWAL,MODIDICATION AND DUPLICATE LICENSE IN CASE OF STATE LICENSE (1 YEAR)
RENEWAL-The fees for renewal of license depends on number of years selected.
MODIFICATION- The fees for modification of license is fees for one (1) year per license modification.
MODIFICATION- The fees for modification of license is fees for one (1) year per license modification.
FEES FOR CENTRAL LICENSE (1 YEAR)
RENEWAL/MODIFICATION OF LICENSE- 7500/-
DUPLICATE- 10% of the applicable license fees.
